About the Bristol Police Youth Academy:

The Bristol Police Youth Academy is going to take place during the summer of 2018 to engage youth in constructive team building and empowerment activities; while building a framework for youth leadership and encouraging better relationships with young people and the Bristol Police Department.

This program will break camp each day into a different theme fostering different objectives for the children to learn and demonstrate through activities, interactive games and skill building.

The Youth Academy is designed to instruct children in the primary areas of communication, honesty, integrity, respect and team work.

Additionally the camp will cover some self-protection, some investigation elements with the use of a site wide search and investigation, a demonstration of uniformed police tactics and gear, and more.

Children who fully complete this academy will meet new friends, learn new skills and develop a sense of teamwork, accomplishments and pride. 

Drop off is at the Quinta-Gamelin Recreation Department on Asylum Road at 8:00 AM, pick up will be at 2:00 PM; there will be no bus transportation offered, parents will have to arrange for transportation to and from the camp. All camp participants must bring a lunch on all days except cook out day. All participants must bring a water bottle and snacks to eat throughout the day.

Parents: Prior to completing the application, please take into consideration all factors that might affect your child’s non-participation, such as vaccinations, doctor’s appointments, etc. A waiting list will be created once the participation list reaches 25-30 registrants.

Camp will run daily, rain or shine on the grounds of The Quinta-Gamelin Recreation Center. The fee is $30.00 per registrant and is non-refundable. Payment is due at the time of registration confirmation; you will be contacted by a representative of the Bristol Police Department by phone. After your are contacted by phone, payment must be in the form of a check or money order payable to “Bristol Police Department”, we are unable to accept cash or credit/debit cards. Special circumstances may be taken into consideration in lieu of the registration fee.

Applications must be received no later than June 14, 2018 as we anticipate that his course will fill up quickly.

Age Requirements:

The Bristol Police Youth Academy is geared to children in the 5th and 6th grade or those who are between the ages of 10-13.

Dates and Hours:

The program will begin on Monday, August 6, 2018 and will conclude on Friday August, 10, 2018.

Start time is at 8:00 AM and runs to 2:00 PM at the Quinta-Gamelin Recreation Center.

Camp will run rain or shine.The program will begin at the conclusion of Camp Poppasquaw in August to allow children who wish to participate in both programs the opportunity to do so.

Residency Requirement:

Due to the limited space (25-30 registrants) this program will only be open to children who reside in the Town of Bristol.
