On 7/1/2015 the Town of Bristol implemented the community notification system know as CodeRED, a rapid emergency notification system designedto deliver critical communications that alerts citizens about crucial life safety-related information.
utilizes a unique mapping capability that allows for the geographic
targeting of calls, coupled with a high speed telephone calling system
capable of delivering customized pre-recorded emergency messages
directly to a recipient whose phone number is registered within
CodeRED’s phone number database. This database supports sending
message notifications to landline and mobile phones, as well as text
messages and email, and also allows preferences to be set by recipients.
“This emergency notification system
enables the Town of Bristol to quickly provide essential information to
the public in a variety of situations, such as evacuation notices,
severe weather alerts, boil water notices, and Missing children,” the
Rhode Island Emergency Management Director Peter Gaynor said. “The
CodeRED system will provide us with the ability to quickly deliver
messages to targeted areas or the entire state, depending on the
severity and extent of an emergency or disaster, at no cost to those who
receive the messages.”
